At Hospital
Kris had only been in hospital for a night and she was already bored. She didn't like the fact, she couldn't breathe properly but when you had four broken ribs, that was to be expected. But did they really have to wrap the bandages as tight as they had? Her ear had started stinging about four hours ago thanks to the cut on her earlobe and she couldn't even scratch it as her right hand was bound due to it being fractured and the other was covered in cuts so moving it was not an option. She knew she had a multitude of bruises and cuts and didn't think that going into work would be possible in the near future so she had rang in and given them some story about a family member being ill. Not like they knew she had moved to Searchlight without family. The worse of her bruises were fixated around her face and back. She could still feel the tooth missing in the back of her mouth. She had also decided she hated stitches because they itched and she knew she couldn't itch them. Her neck was tightly wrapped due to the bite mark there and the amount of blood she had lost through that wound. Vampires never played fair. She closed her eyes and leaned back into her pillow.
Dominick held a bouquet of yellow roses in one hand and slowly pushed open Kris's door with the other. He put a smile on his face, but it paused when he saw her lying in the bed. She looked worse than he had thought she would. "Hey, I didn't know if you were the flowers sort, but I thought they could cheer up the room." He walked closely to the bed. "How are you feeling?"
Kris opened one eye slowly and offered Dominick as much of a smile as she could at the moment." Flowers are always good and this room is sorely lacking in colour." She slowly shifted herself to a sitting position. Her hand held her one side as she did this and her dark hair hung loose around her face." I've been better." She answered with a nod of her head.
"Are you in a lot of pain?" He put the flowers down on the side table and sank into a chair, clasping his hands in his lap.
" Comes and go. This place has one good thing going for it. A neverending supply of painkillers." Kris joked with a weak chuckle.
Dominick gave her a worn smile. "And cute doctors, or so I've been told before." He leaned back in his chair and shook his head in a friendly way at her. "Hayden didn't tell me a lot, except that you found a nest of vamps and that you dusted them all. That's my slayer." He gave her a little wink, proud of her. "What was it like? Do you think there are more around?"
Kris shrugged her shoulders but regretted that almost instantly." Intense. Rhiannon and I took different floors. I took down four of your regular type vampires and even crashed through the floor and landed on the first floor with one. Then we went down into the basement as they were obviously guarding something. And low and behold, two Masters. One female and one male."
Dominick winced as her saw her shrug and become in pain. "Wow, here in Searchlight? I wish I could have been with you. I don't know if I would have been any help though. You and Rhiannon seem more than capable." He looked around her room at the various equipment. "Are they going to let me spring you out of here soon?"
" Hell if I know." Kris answered with a slight smirk." The doctors and nurses are pretty tight lipped." She slid her arms over her chest and folded them together." So how are you?"
Dominick wondered if he should keep things to himself. He didn't want to add to her burden. But then he remembered their last talk, and knew he shouldn't keep things from her. "Truthfully? I haven't been sleeping well, and I've had some dizzy spells. On top of that, I was doing some early Christmas shopping in Vegas the other day and I swear I saw Emily at the mall." He gave a little chuckle, trying to laugh it off.
Kris arched an eyebrow and wasn't entirely sure how to respond. Emily was dead. Kris had seen Dominick stake her for herself." If you look in my room, there's some valerium root. Might help with the sleeping problem. But I don't know anything about the dizzy spells. Maybe you should talk to one of the nurses or doctors whilst you're here?"
Dominick thought about it for a moment, and then nodded. "Perhaps I will. And thanks, I'll try the valerium."
" No worries." Kris muttered as she shut her eyes and leaned back into her pillow.
"Is there anything I can get for you or do for you? I can stay as long as you'd like. You should rest, but I will stay here until you fall asleep." He stood up and fluffed her pillows about, tucking her sheets in. He felt awkward, not wanting to hurt her. "It's cold in here. Do you need more blankets?"
Kris shook her head." I'm fine really. Feeling sore but I'm okay." She assured him and even managed a smile." And sleep isn't something that comes easy to me."
Dominick smiled. "I know. I'm working on that. Hopefully Matthew and I can get together soon." He tilted his head at her. "Was this nest ever in one of your dreams?"
" Not that I can recall." Kris remarked before she fell thoughtful. Had she ever dreamt this? She wasn't entirely sure." And if you want to catch Matthew, I'm told he's asleep in those plastic chairs out in the hall."
"He is? Bugger, I didn't even see him when I came in." He gave her a little smile. "Well, if you are okay, perhaps I will go and do just that. Think on the dreams. It might be important." He plucked a stray thread off of the bed. "I'm really glad you are okay."
Kris nodded her head." And even if I wasn't. Rhiannon and I managed to take out a nest and two Masters so I would have been happy." She managed a slight chuckle before she flexed her fingers slowly. Pain shot up her arm but her nose was the only thing that moved to indicate she was in pain.
Dominick gave her a genuine smile then. "You are quite the woman, you know that?" He told himself he should check on Rhiannon as well. "I'll be out in the hall talking with Matthew then. Holler at me if you need anything, okay?"
" Will do." She nodded her head and shifted in her bed.
Dominick tweeked her nose, the only spot he saw on her that wasn't sore. Then he turned and wandered out into the hall. Before looking for Matthew he stuck his head in Rhiannon's room. She was sound asleep. He found a note pad and a pencil on the side table and quickly scrawled out a note telling her he had been there checking in on her, that he was glad she was okay, and thanking her for being there for Kris. Then he went back out to the hall and fell into a chair next to Matthew. "You awake, mate?"
Matthew stirred at the sound of someone's voice. He yawned and stretched his arms out as he woke up slowly." Hey." He murmured groggily. His hand rubbed over his jaw and he frowned at the feeling of stubble against his palm.
Dominick chuckled. "You look great." He gave him a smile and then focused on the doors to the girls rooms. "They are quite the pair, aren't they?" It was obvious Dominick said it with pride in his voice.
Matthew nodded his head." They are indeed." He yawned again and crossed his arms over his chest.
Dominick noted that Matthew looked pretty wiped out. "I was hoping to talk to you about Kris's dreams, but maybe this isn't a good time?"
" Been here a long time." Matthew answered before he stretched once more and got to his feet. His hands stroked through his hair and his eyes turned back to Dominick." What about her dreams?"
"Kris has been having vivid dreams at night, accompanied with some sleep walking. I asked her if she had dreamed about the vamp nest beforehand, but she can't recall. I think it might be important, however."
Matthew nodded his head." Could be Slayer dreams kicking in late? Or something entirely different." He yawned again and walked to the nearby coffee machine.
"It could be a million things." Dominick nodded in agreement. "If you aren't opposed to the idea, I was thinking I'd run home and grab some books, and perhaps you and I can keep a vigil here and do some research? I'll throw in a thermos of tea?" Dominick gave him grin.
Matthew took a sip from his coffee." Sounds good. I'll need to go home at some point. To wash and get something to eat."
"Well, Rhiannon seems to be sleeping soundly, and Kris was about to drift off when I left. What do you say we meet back here in an hour or so?" Dominick was itching to find the answer for Kris. She needed some good news.
Matthew finished his coffee off and tossed the plastic cup into the nearby bin." Sure, we can do that." He rubbed a hand through his longer dark hair and messed it up even further.
"Great. Thank you, Matthew, for everything you've done. I really want to figure this stuff out for Kris, so thanks for that too." Dominick stood up and offered his hand to Matthew.
Matthew took Dominick's hand and shook it." Happy to help."
