| Next Year, All Our Troubles Will Be Miles Away? (Set Before The Celebration) |

The apartment building was familiar, and Mallory sat in the truck looking at it for at least fifteen minutes before getting out, reaching back into the vehicle for the present she'd brought along. She was hesitant, at least not exactly, but she was being a little careful. She hadn't been here in months, and she couldn't even begin to imagine the reception she might get, but if she was really going to start repairing her bridges she had to start here.
Up on the porch, she waited for three solid beats, then knocked on the door. She was brave, she could deal with whatever happened. She'd had a real conversation with her mother, right? Right.
Tis the season for gift-giving and turning over a new leaf.
Alicia pulled her stockings over her knees and stood up to yank them up her thighs. She hadn't really celebrated the holiday with anyone in years, excepting the occasional girlfriend or fuck buddy. Who was she kidding? The only girlfriend-type-thing she had in a while was Mallory- and to this day the first gift she had given in a while.
Casting a look at her bedside drawer, she saw the little tuft of a bow peeking out from the closed edge. Would I see her?
The vengeance demon turned back to her closet with a small wounded look, wearing only her nylons and undergarments, as she searched for her infamous red dress. Less than five days til Christmas and she wanted to at least look festive, even if she didn't exactly feel like it.
( Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, let your heart be light )
( ...Here we are as in olden days, happy golden days of yore. )
( Faithful friends who are dear to us gather near to us once more. )
( Through the years, we all will be together, if the Fates allow )
( Until then, we'll have to muddle through somehow )
( ...So have yourself a merry little Christmas now )
She placed the palm of her hand against the wooden surface flattening it there as if it were the familiar small of Alicia's back. This was the first step in not being a screw up, she guessed. I love you, she mouthed in silence, then nodded before turning to walk down the stairs.
Don't give up on me yet.
