[ music | Melissa Etheridge - Ain't It Heavy ]

Jo headed up a side street, well away from the strip in an attempt to escape the holiday crowds, bright lights and incredible noise that the casinos, clubs and eateries poured into the streets at all hours.

It was only early evening, not quite dusk, but she was disturbed by it all anyway. Black jeans, heavy boots, only loosely laced, a heavy hooded sweatshirt in bright yellow and a quilted flannel jacket made her stand out from the well dressed denizens of the strip in any case.

She listened to the thump scrape of her boots on the cold cement as she looked for an out of the way place to hide for a while. She lit a cigarette while waiting for a light to change and the first flick of thumbnail against filter edge sent a scattering of ashes playing out into the breeze that blew her hair around her face wildly.

Appearances Are Deceiving [19 Dec 2005|12:44pm]

Kael had spent the last few hours moving from bar to bar, never feeling entirely comfortable wherever he settled. He was still recovering, the bruises and cuts still very noticeable against his skin. The pallor of his skin had an almost unhealthy colouring to it. The expensive black shirt that he didn't usually wear now hid bandages and various other injuries and dark slacks covered the long legs that hung from the edge of the bar stool he happened to be perched on.

As strange as it might sound, Kael felt better when he had a lot of people around him -- he blamed the camp for that. He had become so used to having people there every day and every night that being alone seemed the strangest thing in the world. He was nursing a small glass of whiskey and he was turning in ever so slowly so the ice slid across the bottom of the glass to clink against the side.

Dark hair was longer and barely able to remain behind his ears, he hadn't gone to have it cut and it wasn't at the top of his priorities list. Small insignificant things like haircuts could come later when he felt more like himself.

A warm bath and a long nap later and Reverie found herself walking down the streets to familiarise herself with her new surroundings. So much had to be done. Things to find out, things to get and it would just have to wait until tomorrow. To hell with doing it all tonight, there wasn't a rule book and she worked for herself anyway.

Time to just relax was needed. Nothing huge or fancy, just somewhere with a gentle atmosphere to allow her to mull things over in her head and adjust to the City. That was more or less why she pushed the door open to the bar that seemed almost out of place next to a few rather loud clubs. With a slightly lazy walk she made her way to the bar, placing herself on a stool quietly. Her blouse ruffling slightly as she sat down but a quick smoothing with her hand fixed that. Her skirt was just to her knee, nothing flashy but more comfortable, as were her ankle boots which now rested against the lower bar on the stool.

The bar tender offered a soft smile and a nod and she returned it, ordering herself a cocktail apparently called an Attitude Adjustment, a little bemused smile on her face when it was given to her. She liked to try cocktails, there was always so many and sometimes you'd find one that really hit the spot.

Might Know. )

"Nice save," Kael remarked with a good natured smile and a wink of one eye. He now rose to his feet and bowed his head to Reverie so eye contact could be maintained, "It was good to meet you, Reverie and I look forward to hearing from you."

She attempted to hold back her smile, the corners of her lips twitching instead. "It was good to meet you too, Kael, but I believe from what you said I should be the one looking forward to hearing from you." With that said she also stood up, with every intention of getting back to her hotel room and sleeping until mid afternoon.
