Kris stirred awake at the feel of something wet licking her face. She groaned softly as she lifted a hand to push whatever it was away but Eddy wasn't so easily deterred. He fell off her side only to jump back up. His nose pushed at the skin under her chin, it would seem he was determined to wake her up. Kris exhaled a breath as the weight was back on her side and a pain shot up her still mending ribs. She turned over onto her back and peered up at Eddy." I'm awake. Happy now?" Eddy merely barked and panted eagerly before he jumped into the front seat and pawed at the door's handle.
What had gotten into her dog this morning? Kris lifted her arm and looked closely at the hands on her watch." Oh for Gods sake Eddy, it's only five AM!" She was tempted to tug the blanket back over her head and go back to sleep. This was the most sleep she had gotten in days but Eddy seemed able to read her mind. His teeth caught a hold of her blanket and he gave it a tug. As the blanket was pulled, Kris' body was subjected to the ice cold conditions of her car and she let out a startled cry.
" Oh I'm going to kill you." Kris growled under her breath before literally launching herself through the gap that seperated the two front seats. Unfortunately Eddy appeared to be ready as his paws managed to pull the handle and he fled out of the car. Kris landed rather awkwardly on her side and heaved in another breath." Note to self, remember you're INJURED!" She took a moment to recover her breath before she pulled herself through the gap and settled into her passenger seat.
She had to laugh as her dog was running around in circles after his own tail and the blanket was tangling up in his paws. Kris was about to say something when Eddy literally went crash and he lay on the ground squirming beneath the blanket." More trouble than you're worth." Kris remarked over dramatically before she got out of the car. Her body shivered as her bare feet met the cool sand. She really hated the mornings in the desert, she would rather be too hot than too cold. She moved slowly so she didn't jar her injuries or the wrapping the nurses had done before she had signed herself out.
Kris covered the distance quickly and crouched. Her hands pulled the blanket from off Eddy and her hands smoothed over his ears and chin." As Dominick might say, you're a silly sod." She pressed a kiss to Eddy's head and gathered the blanket around her form. Her eyes looked to the distance and her breath was literally taken away. There over the horizon was a beautiful thing.
The first rays of sun were settling slowly over the sand covered ground. Kris watched as the sun eradicated all of the shadow and she noticed how warm she felt all of a sudden. Her eyes continued to watch as the sun continued to rise, streams of light ripped across the darkened land and many things she had never noticed before were highlighted.
She allowed herself a soft chuckle." So this is why you wanted me awake." Eddy barked and ran over to settle at her feet." You're a good dog." She rubbed a hand over the top of his head and continued to watch. Kris eased herself onto the hood of her car and she settled her back against her windscreen. She curled her legs up towards her chest and wrapped the blanket around her. Eddy laid down on the sand and simply put his head between his legs as he like his owner watched the sun rise.
It really was beautiful and it put a lot of things in perspective.

Jordan drank down the beer she had bought about an hour ago. Her eyes returned to the game of pool laid out in front of her on the table. She had escaped Searchlight for a few hours and had found herself in a small pool hall by the name of "Rack N Roll" and so far, she had won six games and lost two. Her hair was loose around her shoulders and she was dressed in a casual pair of jeans and a t-shirt that ended just above her navel. She wore comfortable yet stylish sneakers and her face curled into a smile as her opponent missed his next shot. "Too bad." She murmured with a smirk before she walked the length of the table and started to position herself for her own shot.
Jade parked his car and got out, stretching. He'd barely slept the night before; he had way too much on his mind. He'd decided to take a short drive and see what was outside of Searchlight. He glanced around. Small general store, post office... pool hall? Why not. Least he could get a drink.
"I do believe that's the black, gentleman." Jordan said as she straightened her back. The men grumbled but at her finger twitching, they handed over their money and Jordan collected it. If she hadn't become a FBI agent, she could have easily worked pool halls. Men seemed to have this view of women when it came to playing pool and it paid off to use it to your advantage.
Rack N Roll. Interesting name. Jade pushed the door open and walked in, squinting as his eyes adjusted to the dimness. He glanced around, finally opting to sit down not far from the pool tables. He ordered a Pepsi and rubbed his eyes, still trying to wake up.

Devon did a lot of walking, mostly to get out of that room and to clear his head. He found being outside helped him with a great many things. One was the beast, it liked being outside and if walking meant it was quiet. He was quite happy to walk, even at this time of the morning. He was dressed in a pair of dark blue jeans and a black shirt. His hands were tucked in the back pockets and his chunky boots crunched over the sand as he walked. But he paused as the air seemed to change, a scent wrapped around him and he knew only one person who wore that perfume.
" Hello Amy." He commented without even looking behind him.
Amy laughed softly." You were always quite good at knowing when I was near, Devon." Her hand traced his back and her face leaned in close to his as she appeared behind him." It's nice to know not everything has changed." Her voice was soft and almost gentle. She circled around him and stood in front of him.
" What do you want?" He asked calmly.
Amy smirked lightly." I just wanted to talk. You know, like we used to. Before everything changed." She stepped towards him and curled her hands around his shirt." Why did things change, Devon?" Her dark blue eyes looked up at Devon almost imploringly. To any onlooker, they looked quite cosy.
( Overhearing Things She Shouldn't )
( Spotted! )
Devon allowed himself a slight laugh before he took a step towards her. His arms lifted to rest his hands on either side of her." I may be pretty bad at this sort of stuff but I am good at something else."
"Oh yeah? What's that?" asked Milly. She lifted her back from off of the car and looked up at him, smiling.
He smirked lightly and leaned down so his lips hovered over hers." This." He said simply before his lips met hers and he kissed her slowly. One hand moved to hold the back of her neck
Milly reached up and wrapped her arms around his neck as she stood on her toes to bridge the three inches seperating his height from hers and returned his kiss, thinking maybe this wasn't such a crap-ass town afterall.

Jordan drew her car to a stop outside of William's. Her blue shades rested over her eyes and she smiled as those eyes came to fall on the familiar house. Jordan stepped out of the car and adjusted her jeans so they went back to their original resting place. Around her hips. Her hair was still loose and she looked more relaxed and more casual than she had in a while. She was wearing an off the shoulder white top and her skin was being nicely tanned by the hot desert sun. She stepped up onto the front porch and she knocked lightly.
William heard the knock in his bedroom, and got up to open it, when he heard it open. He swallowed. Des was out, and he was fairly sure Adam hadn't left his room. Whoever opened the door must have been Wendy. He didn't know who was there, but he was uncomfortable letting an amnesiac who was supposed to be dead answer his door.
Wendy heard the knock at the door. She had been enjoying the hospitality of William, the man who owned the house, for the past couple of days, and she felt like she needed to do something, so she had been cleaning, but with someone coming, she headed to open it. She pulled it open and saw a woman waiting out there. "Hello. Can I help you?"
( The Old Meets the New )
( Freak out )
Jordan managed a smile." Understood, loud and clear." Her hands reached up to grip lightly at his." I just feel slightly awkward. It's that whole meeting the ex thing only this one has no memories and is supposed to be dead."
William nodded, and squeezed her hand back before getting up. "I understand. But I take it you want to go home?"
" Yeah." Jordan said with another nod of her head." I have a ton of work to do anyways. Three dead hookers and a chauffeur means a whole lot of work for yours truly."
William nodded again. "If you need any help, just ask. I'm still looking into your vampire, and I have some of the others doing the same. Otherwise, I'll see you soon?"
Jordan slipped her shades back over her eyes." Yeah, see you soon." She had a whole lot of thinking to do. And that she usually did in private.
William walked her to the door, and opened it. "I love you," was all he could say as she headed out.
Jordan nodded her head." I love you too, William." She leaned in to give him a brief kiss. It was ridiculous but in some ways, she felt like the "other" woman. It was stupid and she was fully aware of this fact but it didn't stop her from feeling it. She found her keys in her pockets and walked to where her car was parked.
William watched her go. He wanted to sweep her into his arms, to kiss her, to make everything all right. But he knew he couldn't. So he just shut the door, and headed back to the couch, where he put his head into his hands and sat, trying to find his own center.

| The Long Wait |
[04 Dec 2004|11:11pm] |
Rhiannon looked up a little quickly as the waitress approached her table.
The woman in the apron noted the defensive look on the younger woman's face. "Easy, hun. I'm just here for the refill."
Rhiannon met Verlie's eyes and nodded after a moment. "Thanks," she murmured, watching as the dark liquid spilled into her cup. Without touching the steaming coffee, Rhiannon flicked her ashes in a tray and let her eyes return to the window. They narrowed on the people who passed, unconsciously searching for one blue coat. One familiar profile. Daddy.
Why are you here?
Rhiannon pulled her boots up into the booth. Her arms looped around her knees as she looked.
Why am I still waiting?
Suddenly, Rhiannon wasn't sitting in a diner booth, and wasn't watching the pedestrians beyond the glass.
She was sitting in a faded armchair in her old living room, and watching the cracked driveway in front of her house. She was waiting for the beat-up truck to pull into its spot, and her father to climb out in his reluctant way.
'I just miss your mommy, Rhi.'
A clump of hot ashes fell onto Rhiannon's finger. She blinked away from the memory and crushed her cigarette. Her hands lifted to her face and she rubbed the heels across her eyes, smearing her mascara.
'Where've you been? Wipe that make-up off your face. You look cheap.'
Rhiannon expelled a breath and dropped her hands. Her fingers backed into her sleeves until they were hidden. Her eyes went back to the window of their own accord, continuing to search.
For a moment, as she sat there with her arms around her knees and her sweatshirt too long for her arms, she resembled the little girl she had once been, perpetually waiting for her daddy to come home.

Oz carefully replaced the phone into it's cradle and frowned deeply. This wasn't a good situation. He received a letter from the monks stating that things had escalated in the nearby village. And several of the monks had now gone missing, including one of his good friends, Lama Paljor.
He called one of the local Inn Keepers in Tibet that he knew and got the same story, only worse. Someone was specifically targeting the monks for being peaceful and helping people. He had to help. Yet, he knew he was also needed in Searchlight. He didn't have much of a choice here. He'd have to go back to Tibet. He could come back if he was able to help the monks. He knew they wouldn't want him to leave Nevada and head back to them. But like it or not, they needed him.
Oz climbed off the bed and quickly gathered all of his things. He was packed in record time. Before leaving, he left his whereabouts and contact information with the front desk clerk in case anyone needed to get in touch with him while he was gone. Hopefully, they'd be okay. He knew most of the people who came to this town to fight were well prepared for the ensuing and constant battles.
Breathing in the air as he walked toward the bus stop, he strongly felt something bad was going to happen here. Soon. He wished he could stay and help, but he could only fight one battle at time. Slinging his backpack over a shoulder, a suitcase tugging his arm down, he climbed onto the bus and sat down, staring out the window as it picked up speed. He hoped he'd be back soon.
