Hayden exhaled a heavy sigh and glanced at the dashboard clock as he drove the last few miles into Searchlight. The sun had just slipped beneath the horizon, and already he was exhausted, from both the long day of studying and the trip. Sometimes it felt like the only thing he did lately was drive. Back and forth, Nevada to Utah, Kris to Athan. He knew she'd already be on patrol by the time he reached town and he was a little disappointed. The thought of finding her in his apartment, wearing one of his shirts, made coming home seem that much better. He also had something he wanted to give her. He'd seen the dagger that afternoon, and the moment he'd gripped the handle, he knew it was meant for her.

She saw that his porchlight was on. Still, she lingered in the street. It was a crisp and cool night, not a cloud in the sky. Emily hummed softly under her breath, taking a step towards Dominick's house.
Hannah pulled the aging station wagon to a stop by the curb, wincing at the plaintive squeal of her brakes. She shifted into park, pulled the key from the ignition, and stepped out. She hadn't seen Dominick since their dinner, and figured she ought to check on him and make sure everything was alright. Hannah reached back into the car to grab a plate of cookies covered in plastic wrap before shutting the door with her hip. It was her first attempt at baking since she was a little girl-- Back in the days when she'd sit, chin in hand, watching her Grandma make all kinds of sweets, and if Hannah was good, she could lick the bowl after the cookies were in the oven. She smiled at the memory and headed towards his front walk, the thin cotton of her skirt brushing against her knees.
Emily paused as she noticed a car pull up and park out in front of Dominick's house. A young lady got out, holding a plate of cookies, by the smell of it. "Hmmm, still warm." Emily giggled and stepped closer toward the house, standing just beneath a street light. "Are they chocolate chip?" She asked the girl, smiling and dancing on the tips of her toes. "They were always my favorite."
Hannah looked up from the plate, surprised to hear a voice when she'd thought she was alone on the quiet street. As soon as she spotted the little girl, her face broke into a smile. "Yep, sure are. They're my favorite, too." She walked to where the little girl stood and laughed at the way she pranced about. "I say, if you're gonna dance, it might as well be for chocolate. Do you think your mommy would mind if I gave you one?" Hannah glanced around. "It's right about dinner time. I wouldn't want to spoil it."
Emily clapped her hands in delight, the evil in her eyes masked to this stranger. "My mommy won't know, and I promise it won't spoil my dinner." She reached out and snatched one off the plate before the woman could change her mind. "Do you know Dominick?" She plunged the entire cookie in her mouth, chewing it vigorously.

NIN - Kinda I Want To |
] |
I've been keeping my head down and working on my studies. Training here and there with Mich, when I can catch her. She seems down.. I wonder what's going on, and if I can get her to talk to me about it.
I need to leave the house during daylight hours, try and meet some more people. Maybe see Hannah again.. I haven't been back to the diner, V hasn't called. Spending some time in the shop, working on cars.. but there's really not a lot of call fo rit right now.
Spent an evening in Vegas.. that was productive.
Mostly, I'm feeling useless. I think I'm gonna throw a party. Here at the house, see how many of the others I can get to come. I'll use the shop's printer to do up flyers and then I'll post them places.. like the diner and if the owner will let me, that book store.. Unseen Insight. I should go int here anyway. Yeah.

| Nightmare |
[02 Nov 2004|06:52pm] |
Devon was dreaming again but this time it was different. He didn't dream of the hunt, he didn't dream of the beast within. He dreamt of that night and when the beast had claimed him. Sharp flashes of pain raced through his body as he remembered the first lunge, how his ribs had broken on contact and then the claws as they had shredded his flesh. He cried out sharply as he felt teeth sinking into the flesh of his side. A snarling sound had been the only sound he heard. Warm blood trickled over his body until his skin was red, deep gashes had been gourged in his flesh. A long cut stretched from beneath one eye all the way down and over his lips until it reached his neck. He jerked in his bed, unaware that the horror within his dreams had now translated itself to the real world. His blood stained the white sheets and his body looked like it had done when his father had found him half dead in the fields all those years ago. Devon was too caught up in the nightmare to even realise, all he knew was the pain.
Milly had been watching David Letterman on the television when a terrible shriek exploded in the hotel room. It took her a moment to figure out the shriek was coming from Devon and Milly looked over in wide-eyed horror as he thrashed around in bed and his skin split into open, deep wounds, gushing blood onto the sheets and onto the floor. "Oh, God." She leapt off her bed and tried to hold him down. "Devon! Devon! Wake up! Devon!" she yelled, trying to get through to him, unsure of what else to do.
