because she demanded it, an AIM conversation )

Right. Goin out to kill things. Again. Because lately, there's always something literally right outside my door to kill. Jesus. Getting old now. The zombie thing is just gettin on my nerves, it needs to stop now. Hopefully, things'll pull together to get that done. I think I might head over to Kris's and see if she wants to go out killing things with me later. I know that vamps'll be out too. They've just been harder to sneak up on, what with all the zombie killing in the way.

Still no word from Nyx about Dawn's living situation. Which, in light of the current situation, isn't really surprising. I'd be actually more surprised if he had come up with an answer right away. But she's aparently doing semi-ok where she is. I know she wants her own space though. Which, who wouldn't. Especially if you plan to be doing weird magic spells. But I don't care, just as long as she doesn't do it alone. Period.

With this endless night thing going on, and contant fighting, and lack of sleep...she's kind of the only thing right now that breaks up the badness.

Ok. Off to kill. Actually spotted a vamp. Time to go hunting.

Damn Possessed Locals! [03 Oct 2004|02:37am]
[ mood | aggravated ]
[ music | Hanson - Underneath ]

Jo moved around the bar, having had to fight off several possessed locals after they broke her front window. She got all the glass cleaned up and got started taping heavy gauge plastic sheeting over the space where the window had been. She looked over at the locals where they sat, back to back, all tied together. She frowned at them and shook her head before putting the last bit of tape into place. "This is a fine mess, thanks guys." They just muttered back at her in Hebrew.

Tyler had been wondering up and down streets, just trying to get himself accustomed to his new environment. He had moved quickly and quietly, and so far had managed to avoid any direct contact with anyone. He noticed a woman taping up what once had been a large window, and got an odd feeling from inside the building. It was similar to the ones he had felt when he first moved into his new house on the Northern edge of town. He walked to the door, and opened it, walking in cautiously. "Is everything...ok?" he asked the woman, eyeing a group of people tied to each other in the back of the room.

The Third Degree )

Jo nodded, giving him a wave and cleaning up the bar as he left. She looked over at the locals and shook her head with a sigh before going over to the group and untying them. She hefted them each, one at a time and hauled them down the stairs, locking them in the big walk in cooler that they hadn't plugged in yet. She made sure the exhaust vent at the back was open so they'd have air, but nothing more. Wondering if they'd kill each other in there, she hoped it wasn't a bad idea.

Tyler made his way out the door, past the plastic that now hung for a window. Tucking his hands into his pockets, he disappeared into the dark without a trace, making his way for his new home, and glad to have made contact with someone so quickly. Having a point of contact could only be a good thing. After learning of the zombies that roamed the town, he hoped his trip home would be as uneventful as the trip into town. But unlike Jo, he wasn't sure just how much mercy he would show.

The State of Things [03 Oct 2004|02:35pm]
Behind the cash register of Unseen Insight, Rhiannon perched on her stool, feet tucked into the rungs and forearms resting on the countertop. Her eyes remained on the front window, watching as the occasional stupid brave pedestrian hurried by in the permanent midnight. Her muscles ached with the urge to be out there again, but it was important to help keep the shop open at a time like this. Resources were slim.

The locals were finally becoming wise to the happenings in town and battening down the hatches. Stores and offices were closing (already, she'd noticed the Mercantile, Community Center, Post Office, and General Store being boarded up). On her way in earlier, she'd heard loud shouts and banging sounds coming from those buildings. Inside, she knew the possessed townspeople were being tied in groups to keep them from ripping one another apart. Rhiannon cringed at the memory of what she'd seen the night before. They weren't just eating animals. They were attempting to eat one another.

The lucky ones who hadn't been possessed or eaten attacked were barricading themselves into their homes. Ignorance could only carry you so far after watching your neighbors dropping like flies to the strange spirits diving into them. Rhiannon could see little rhyme or reason as to why some people were easily possessed and others were not. Maybe it had to do with power, health, or a strong will of the mind.

Most of the Paiutes were gone, no longer needed now that living bodies had been secured. Living bodies that could reason, scheme, and hit back with startling strength. Rhiannon's fingers lifted to a bruise on her cheek where a woman had managed to club her while she was distracted.

The thing that had startled her the most, however, was the pile of bodies she'd seen forming on the outskirts of town. Somehow, these people who could be so hateful on a regular day, who could turn blind eyes to almost anything, had already begun to remove evidence from the streets.

As soon as she could leave, Rhiannon pulled on her hooded sweatshirt and slid off the stool. The air outside was cooler now, the sun having been absent from Searchlight for over a week. On her way out the back entrance, she grabbed a paper bag from the back of the store and tacked a note for her co-worker on the door.

Destiny )

Her steps were slow as she made her way down the empty street. She stopped outside the Post Office, sliding aside the thick board she'd placed in front of the door. Rhiannon knelt beside the snarling group, hardly able to believe they were human anymore. With a deep breath inward, she pushed up her sleeve and reached into the bag. Her unlikely captives strained against their ropes as her hand emerged, full of raw meat. She steeled herself as she held her palm above the first mouth.

"Just don't bite the hand that feeds you."

Destiny checked the note one more time. Jon was recuperating and it was all because of Dyan. She could hardly believe it and she felt guilty that she hadn't taken care of Dyan yet. Jon was a friend of hers, or at most an acquaintance. Therefore, she bought a "Get Well Soon" balloon and went to the Kay to deliver it. She opened the door to the office and peeked inside, reminiscent of when she first met him.

Alexis walked into the main lobby of the motel when she saw a girl standing up ahead. Alexis tilted her head. She looked awfully familiar."Nice balloon. There a party going on or something?," Alexis asked as she approached her.

Familiar Faces In New Places )

Alexis rolled her eyes and smirked. "No, just moved on to bigger and better things." She glanced around. "And I, uh, work in this town." She uncrossed her arms and pulled out a cigarette. "I guess you're not afraid of the dark anymore, or else you wouldn't be here." She lit up.

Destiny fumed. "Low." She struck back. "And obviously you're enjoying your new digs in this motel. At least I have an address that doesn't end with 'Room Number 45'."

The Grudge )

Destiny felt the pinpricks of oncoming tears. "Fuck. You." Destiny couldn't come up with a comeback because it was all true. She couldn't save him. "I didn't kill him. He was turned."

Alexis saw tears form in Destiny's eyes, and felt a grim satisfaction. "That must have been so hard for you," she said in a cold, pitiless voice. "But hey...you always have me." She laughed and turned away.

If looks could throw daggers, Alexis would have been shish-ka-bob. "And I bet you're feeling all high and mighty now. Dorky Destiny didn't get her happily ever after. But know what? You are a waste of person. So, in the end, my life is infinitely better than yours." Destiny spun on her heel and left the motel. At the door, she turned around to face Alex's back. "Have fun being alone tonight. I'll be sure to direct a zombie your way if you get too lonely." With that, she left, inwardly shouting profanities.

Alexis walked back to her room, laughing to herself the whole way.

Twists And Turns [03 Oct 2004|05:05pm]
[ mood | mellow ]

Woke up to a pleasant suprise this morning.

A huge stack of boxes on my doorstep, seems my superiors read my email and complied with my request. I now have several cases to look through and see how they compare to the ones facing me at the moment.

I really need more coffee before I even think about tackling these monsters.

Well that dinner was interesting and...enjoyable, it was certainly something I didn't expect.

I don't know what it is about William but I get the feeling there's more to him than meets the eye. He isn't being honest with me but should I really expect anything else? I keep wanting to let my guard down and then not being able to, how can I trust him? How can I trust this town when all I've met with is strange experiences and death after death?

I've shifted through about fifty or so cases and I have another hundred or so to go. This killer certainly enjoys what they do. The bodies keep cropping up

Non stop action around here. I'm surprised I haven't had some form of heart attack by now.

Long Overdue Call [03 Oct 2004|05:46pm]
[ mood | worried ]

------ Non Journal Entry ------

Joseph paced his apartment for a moment. His brown eyes lifted to look at the small black phone which rested on his bed. It wasn't that difficult to pick up and dial a number was it? This was amusing, he wasn't scared of being shot or being in a fight but he was scared of dialling a number. Mostly because that number would reconnect him with his past, the past he had spent the last couple of years running from. Why was he even contemplating calling? Maybe it was because his mother had been on his mind a lot lately and usually when someone was on his mind this often in so many days, something was wrong.

With a deep breath and yet another yank of his dark hair with a hand, he walked over to the bed and snatched up the phone. He flipped it open and pressed the number one on his speed dial and instantly it was calling home. Joseph made a mental note to buy himself some more cigarettes once he was done with this phone call, his fingers drummed against his thigh as he heard the tone ring and ring. It seemed to echo in his head and with each ring, his breathing quickened and his heartbeat thudded solidly against his chest.

And then the ringing tone was cut off and his mother's voice flowed across the line." Yes?"

" Ciao Momma. It's Joseph." He said slowly after a moment's silence.

" Joseph! Oh my baby! It is so good to hear from you. How are you? Still in Vegas, eh?" His mother asked quickly, her voice was as always warm and he could tell she was smiling on the other end of the line.

He balanced the phone between his shoulder and ear as he took to fiddling with his leather bracelets." Si momma, I'm still in Vegas and I'm okay. How are you? They treating you good?" There was a silence that didn't sit too well with Joseph. His mother was a talker, the only time she fell quiet like this was when something was wrong. Joseph arched an eyebrow and asked." Momma?"

" I'm still here Joseph. I am okay but the wars Joseph, the wars have started again." His mother answered, her voice shaking for a brief moment before Joseph heard her muttering a prayer." Dio, it's going to be bad this time Joseph. Much worse than the last time."

Joseph's eyes darkened as did his facial expression and his entire body seemed to tense." I thought the wars were over?" He inhaled slowly and willed himself to calm down.

His mother nodded her head before answering." The wars were over but some new gangs, they came into town and tried to take over and you know how Alberto doesn't like it when people question him."

" Si momma I know." Joseph's fingers ran across his forehead and then his thumb and middle finger worked over his temples in slow methodical circle." Is Alberto going to look after you?" Joseph recalled the night he had left, he had made Alberto swear to take care of his mother and to get her out if things ever changed, if things went back to the old days.

" Oh si, si! Don't worry about me Joseph. I will be okay." His mother assured him before her tone turned to an amused one." Enough talk about the gangs Joseph. Tell me about yourself! It's been so long. A mother needs to know about her child."

Joseph laughed softly. Typical, his mother was stuck in-between two warring sides and she was still asking about him." Well, I'm still living and working in Vegas but I found a girl.."

" A girl?!" His mother exclaimed." Oh it's about time Joseph. You were single for too long, far too long." He smirked softly and waited for another onslaught of questions." So this girl? What's her name and what's she like?"

" Her name is Rhiannon. You'd like her, very spirited and independent. Sexy too." He laughed as his mother laughed on the other end of the line." I love her momma."

His mother smiled slowly." I'm so happy for you." Her voice trailed off as someone shouted her name and after a while, she spoke again." I have go Joseph. Alberto is here."

Joseph nodded his head." Alright momma. Call me when you can alright? No buts and no excuses and tell Alberto I say hello."

" Sure, sure. I will talk to you soon Joseph and don't be a stranger." His mother commented warmly before she added." I love you and it's good to hear you're doing so well for yourself."

" I love you too momma and take care of yourself alright?" Joseph said in a slightly warning tone, as if to say. You don't and they'll be hell to pay.

This earnt him a chuckle from his mother." Si Joseph. Goodbye." With that said she hung up on the other end and Joseph listened as his ear was met with a long dull tone. His mother was gone for the moment. Joseph flipped the phone shut before tossing it back over his shoulder, his hands sunk into his hair as his eyes slid shut.

Life was never simple or so it would seem.

Highway Robbery [03 Oct 2004|06:56pm]
Matthew had just suffered through a very long arduous shift at the bar and was currently on the stretch of road that led from Las Vegas to Searchlight. His bike was humming between his legs and as always, a black helmet covered his head. As he began to near Searchlight, his attention was diverted from the road ahead to slight jolt between his legs. That wasn't right. Matthew then watched as he lost speed and his bike spluttered and rolled to a very slow death. He flipped his visor open and cursed." Bugger!" He growled softly and stepped off the bike before pushing it to the side of the road." Not again." He sighed as he propped the bike up and began to take a closer look at the bike itself, what was wrong with it this time?

The tall, slim demon cut an impressive figure as he made his way along the road in his white suit, his strides slow but executed in ultimate confidence. His hands were held loosely behind his back, the sound of his footsteps clipping the air in the silence of the desert. Darian did not hesitate to approach the man with the bike. A pair of polished shoes appeared beside Matthew's front tire.

Matthew's eyes shifted to the polished shoes beside his tire and then they ran up the length of the white suit. His eyebrows twitched as the white gave way to first a dark, almost murky colour. This colour seemed to situate itself around this man's stomach and there was an occasional flare of red and yellow as Matthew's eyes continued to traverse this man's body. His eyes then rested on the man's face, he noted the high cheekbones, the cold eyes and the slick hair. He was definitely someone who stuck out especially in this place. Matthew also saw a grey colour merge with all the others, this man's aura was forever changing and seemed to be generally murky.

Darian met Matthew's eyes, noting the faint changes in the man's expression, but his own remained immutable. Without breaking eye contact, he knelt beside Matthew, careful not to lower the knee of his pants to the ground. After a few seconds, he turned his gaze to the bike. A pale index finger extended to the machinery, coming away coated in oil. "Hmm. This is unfortunate." His voice was cool, without accent.

"Yeah it is." He agreed with the other man, he exhaled a long breath. Searchlight had been bad for his bike, go figure. He wasn't sure what to say to the other. "Trust my luck." He now commented with a smirk.

Darian rubbed his thumb against his index finger and the oil dissipated from his skin. He stood effortlessly, eyes studying his clean fingers before focusing on his palm. The eyes returned to Matthew's face. "Oh, I wouldn't blame luck for this one, Matthew." He clasped his hands together and turned his head towards town. "Tell me, how are things in Searchlight?"

A Shame )

Oversight )

Darian's eyes dropped once again to the damaged vehicle before returning to Matthew's face. "Pleasant trip, then," he finished, a faint glimmer in his eyes. With that, he retreated in the direction from which he'd come.

Matthew watched him leave before he crouched back down beside his bike. His eyes raked across the bike itself and he sighed, yes it was still leaking oil. He was really going to take his bike in for an overhaul. Maybe Andi would do it? He locked the helmet away into the box before he inhaled and trudged along the side of the road quite literally pushing the bike all the way back to Searchlight. His mind going over the things Darian had told him and what he should do because of it.

Andi grumbled to herself as she scraped down the grill. Somehow she'd gone from working the overnight shift to working whatever they needed her to. Seemed like all the staff were falling away into the never ending night and there was no one else to cover it. She finished sliding the grease and scraps away and slapped down a pair of burgers, some bacon and a couple eggs. People ate weird stuff at weird hours, she mused to herself as she watched the food cook.

The rest of the shift was uneventful, thankfully. Hannah seems nice, if not a little nervous sometimes. I suppose I'll be seeing her again, as she share work space.

Now I'm off to the shop to see what the guys have messed up recently, see if I can fix it properly.

Bike Mishaps and Dinner [03 Oct 2004|10:27pm]
[ mood | good ]

Andi sat on a chair, leaned back on two legs and rested against the wall. She looked at the empty bays and sighed, none of the guys were even here. She figured they'd all gone to hide at home. She looked up when the door opened creakily and smiled faintly as Jo entered. "Hey Slayer, what's up?" She waved at the blonde, who waved back. "Nothing much Andi, what's up with you?" Jo spoke with a faint smile.

The term for Matthew right now was disgruntled. He had trekked a long way and that whole meeting with Darian still played heavily on his mind. Of course he had stopped by his motel room to grab a change of clothes before heading out again. He was just outside of the repair shop that he knew Andi worked out, bike handles in both hands as he pushed it along. He paused for a moment and knocked on the door with one hand whilst steadying the bike with the other.

Andi and Jo both looked at the door. Who knocked on a public building these days? Andi got up and opened the door to see Matt with his once again disabled bike in tow. "What happened to you?" She looked over it, noting the oil all over the place and looking back at Jo. "Can you hit the button to open the bay door?" Jo nodded and hit said button with a smile, she'd seen Matthew over Andi's shoulder.

"Real bad night." Matthew answered Andi before he shook his head. "I really have no idea, she was running fine then a couple hours ago. She springs an oil leak." He let out an exasperated sigh. He loved this bike and he hated when something was wrong with it. He pushed the bike into the repair shop. His eyes then lifted to Jo and he gave her a warm, genuine smile.

Damn! What Happened Here?! )

A Ride and A Meal )

Snuggle Time (G-Rated) )

So Matthew has my truck, I have Claire's bike and Claire's stuck with Nyx, not that I think she minds. Ha! She's such a dork, and never here, either. I'm really enjoying getting to know Matthew bit by bit, and I just hope Andi can do her deal with his bike, cause that doesn't seem like a random something broke sort of deal to me.

Productive session, definitely productive.

Four locals and three vampires taken care of. Got the locals tied up and safe for the moment. I suppose I should think about getting them some food but that means going to the shop and buying some very raw meat.

Maybe Connor will take care of it? Nah, probably not.

I should go do that and maybe hunt some more. I wonder if Rhiannon would be interested?

Out [03 Oct 2004|11:50pm]
Matthew had decided to venture out into town. His skin and hair was still slightly damp from his shower but he had been thinking and rethinking what he knew and he needed to talk to Hayden. He was pretty casually, a pair of black pants and a blue tshirt. He remembered Kris or Hayden mentioning that Hayden now lived above the bookstore so that was where he was headed. He was just turning the corner to walk down the pavement which led to the bookstore. His mind trying to structure it thoughts and trying to work out how to bring the subject of Darian up.

Hayden sat on the back of his jeep, one leg inside and one leg out. He was dressed in his usual attire-- jeans, a dark t-shirt, and a pair of workboots. He'd come outdoors to find a particular tool he needed to fix the leaking pipe under his kitchen sink. He glanced up at the sound of footsteps, a wrench held between his hands.

Matthew looked up from his feet as he spotted Hayden's leg sticking out of his jeep. He paused beside it and tipped his head so he could look at the other man. "Hey Hayden."

"Hey, man..." Hayden greeted in his quiet voice. He lifted the leg from the inside of the jeep and propped his boot on the tailgate. As he spoke, he tapped the wrench in his palm. "What brings you out this way?"

"I needed to talk to you." Matthew replied, trying to keep some of the seriousness he felt from his voice but it was difficult. His mind still wondering how to approach this subject.

Hayden looked up, stilling the movement of the wrench. "Everything okay? Kris ...?" His eyebrows drew together. Already, tension had begun to form in his posture.

Matthew shook his head. "Kris is fine, there's nothing wrong." He assured the other man, even giving him a brief smile to show that things were in fact okay. "I believe I met someone you know today. He tells me to send you his regards. Darian's regards." His eyes now rested on Hayden's, waiting to see the other man's reactions. Sometimes being blunt worked.

Hayden barely flinched, the expression on his face remaining stoic. The only sign that something could be amiss was a small muscle that tightened in his jaw. "He did, huh?" Hayden's eyes left Matthew's as he reached into his hip pocket for his cigarettes. He tapped them against his hand. "Well, if you see him again, tell him I said hello." His fingers peeled the foil from the new pack and he lifted the lid.
