Winter Solstice Thread, Part 2
And the band played on.
Acoustically, musical rhythms washed over the crowd as the 'Legends of Rock and Roll' entertained the masses. People ate and drank merrily, some performed their own version of the Ice Capades on the imported rink. Safely staged bonfires warmed those gathered. Fireworks intermittantly lit up the sky.
A different sort of light show pulsed in the desert outside of Searchlight as well. Tendrils of energy lashed out, illuminating the night sky. Only these travelled upwards and outwards. Three seconds. Silence. Twelve seconds. Darkness. Ninety seconds...
***
In another world, a permanent crack leading from their confines had taken notice. Old Ones, creatures without name, monsters older than time, they were all drawn to the very spot. Their earth was corrupted, soiled, dissipated.
The small slip promised a new, fertile hunting ground.
For the first time in years, they stopped fighting one another. Turned their attention to a doorway that held so much
promise.
And
pushed.
***
Another pulse erupted. Two minutes, three seconds.
***
Heave.***
And the walls of Jericho came tumbling down.Hands, bodies, heads, all pushed through, and the tear gave birth to a monstrosity it should never carry to term. This breach wounded the night sky, turning it a dull ochre. Rain erupted from non-existent clouds and bleached the sand.
More came. Shuffled. Thundered.
The air was foul, too pure for their liking. That would be rectified soon enough.
A second rift opened three miles to the north, spilling acrid air and a leathery creature with wings.
***
The lightshow over Las Vegas continued, but not from the artificial display of lit chemicals. A hazy, duplicitous Aurora Borealis hovered in the air. It was a thing of beauty, and a portent of things to come.
***
A third, fourth and fifth rift, all trailing an invisible fault line. A beacon to the ever expanding throng outside Searchlight.
And noises, light.
Humanity. All to the north.
Their appetite whetted, they began a trek. Towards the twinkling oasis that was Las Vegas.
An excellent place to start the conquest of a new world.
